Avatar returned to theaters with Fire and Ash on December 19. James Cameron crafted this third chapter for the big screens, with a 3D experience in mind. That message has been crystal clear from the very beginning, from both Cameron and the distributors, 20th Century Studios, which Disney owns.
We wouldn't be surprised to see a similar timeline for the new movie, which could mean that the earliest we can expect to watch Avatar: Fire and Ash on Disney+ is in early June 2026. Disney favours a Wednesday launch for its new streaming movies, putting the likeliest release dates as Wednesday 3 June 2026 or Wednesday 10 June 2026.
Disney/20th Century/Lightstorm’s “Avatar: Fire and Ash” won’t have an opening weekend as big as its 2022 predecessor “The Way of Water,” but is still on course to become Hollywood’s highest grossing film this year as industry projections have it earning a domestic opening of $90 million and a global opening of approximately $340 million.
“Fire and Ash,” the third installment in Disney’s sci-fi saga, grossed $36.5 million from 3,800 North American theaters on Friday. The film is on track to reach between $85 million and $90 million domestically by Sunday. Including international grosses, it could climb as high as $365 million by the end of the weekend.
